About This Spot

Stepping into Patatos, tucked away on İstiklal Avenue in the heart of Beyoğlu, feels like entering a beloved local corner where comfort and simplicity take center stage. The space hums with a steady flow of visitors — locals grabbing a quick bite amid their busy day and night owls seeking a warm, hearty meal after hours. Though the upstairs can get warm, there's an undeniable warmth in the mood, carried by a sense of familiarity and unpretentious joy.

This isn’t a place that dazzles with fuss or formality. Instead, it offers a straightforward invitation to savor one of the most comforting street food staples: the baked potato, or kumpir, done with attentive care. Each potato arrives boasting a satisfyingly crispy skin and a pillowy, creamy inside, generously laden with an array of toppings chosen by the guest. This ritual of customizing your meal feels quietly communal, a small but meaningful act of personalization in an otherwise bustling city rhythm.

Beyond the signature stuffed potatoes, the kitchen quietly serves up hearty companions — from well-spiced doner kebab plates to straightforward portions of fries and refreshing fresh juices — that all weave into an honest and filling experience. The balance here is in the textures and the little moments: the crispness of the potato skin, the creamy buttery core, the playful mix of toppings that range from fresh vegetables to tender meats. It’s a humble, satisfying experience that invites you to pause, pick your favorite flavors, and enjoy a genuine taste of Istanbul’s fast food culture.

The service carries a brisk, no-frills energy, fitting for a place that thrives on steady in-and-out traffic, though it may lack a polished polish or excessive smiles. Still, the staff moves efficiently, helping maintain the welcoming pace for those popping in during busy hours or returning late at night when the city slows down but Patatos’ doors remain open. This practical attentiveness complements the comfort food ethos, making it a reliable spot for when hunger calls.

In many ways, Patatos feels like a neighborhood secret shared quietly among those who appreciate good, honest food without unnecessary adornment. It’s a space to lean into simple pleasures — the warmth of a freshly baked potato, the quiet choice of your favorite toppings, the city’s pulse just outside the door — offering a modest but heartfelt corner of joy.

The potatoes were very creamy on the inside, and the toppings were tasty. The size of the potato was good too, filling, but it would have been nice to have a slightly bigger portion of toppings. Upstairs in the restaurant it was very hot, which was a bit annoying. Also, I would have appreciated if there had been labels above the toppings to show what each one was. Overall, though, I liked it and I would go back.

This is the best potato and Kumpir restaurant in entire taqseem highly recommend that you come and try this restaurant. The staff are great and very fast. Try coming in the morning or late night, very late like after midnight because in peak ours the queue is very long. Despite all Kumpir restaurants you see, this is the best, as the size of the Potato is quite big, while others serve you a smaller size. Highly recommend . You can find the prices in my photos.

OMG who would have thought that a basic potato could taste so good. Hard and crunchy on the outside and filled with the most delicious fillings. We had carrot coleslaw, chicken salami, sweetcorn and butter. Honestly the Michelin star of baked potatoes ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Famous for their Kimpir. We tried Kimpir and lamb donner plate too. Lamb donner was nice tender meat and had good taste. Kumpir was ok. We also tried fresh pomegranate drink which was sour. Overall good but very pricey.

The food was tasty and the ingredients were fresh. We tried the stuffed baked potato where you can choose your own toppings — it was good (4/5), though it might have been our choice of ingredients, as we felt it could use a bit more meat The French fries were very tasty, although they were forgotten at first. The staff were not the most smiley, but everything turned out well and the food was enjoyable. Overall, a nice place with good food. We would recommend it.
